POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be a graduate from a four-year college or university with major coursework in business management, accounting, marketing, or a related field.
· Experience working with the people who are blind and/or have low vision is preferred.
· Knowledge of small business management procedures and practices.
· Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.
· Working knowledge of marketing and customer-relations techniques.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to read and interpret business surveys and reports.
· Ability to prepare accurate and complete case records and reports.
· Ability to compile information and prepare summaries, tabulations, and reports.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with blind vendors and business professionals

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is professional work assisting legally blind individuals served by Alabama’s Business Enterprise Program of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. Employees in this class assist licensed blind vendors in the development, operation, and management of snack bars, cafeterias, and vending services. Work is performed under the supervision of the BEP Director with limited assistance from senior Business Enterprise Program Representatives and program management staff. Work is reviewed for compliance with guidelines and regulations through regular reports and annual performance appraisals. Incumbents in this classification will be required to travel to program or grantor sites, and occasional overnight travel is required. AIDB is sensitive to the needs of Blind or Visually Impaired and Deaf or Hard of Hearing applicants and will make reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants and employees that do not impose an undue hardship and are not essential functions of the job.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· The major purpose of this position is to assist blind individuals in small businesses so that they can become self-supporting.
· Determine if a business opportunity is feasible or profitable.
· Determine eligibility for federal vending program according to the Randolph- Sheppard Act.
· Provide guidance in program operational procedures according to BEP rules and regulations.
· Maintain confidentiality and other operational rules in accordance with ADRS and BEP policy.
· Assist blind vendors in daily business operations such as maintaining proper records, arranging for equipment repair and replacement, preventative maintenance, quality control, customer/grantor relations, and marketing strategies.
· Secures price quotes on equipment repairs, and determine costs of establishing and/or maintaining a business to be operated by a blind vendor, determines feasibility of new business operations.
· Obtains and reviews information such as site surveys, statistical reports, and architectural reports, facility surveys, marketing data and accounting reports.
· Provides in-service training for blind vendors.
· Maintains appropriate case records and documentation of business activities.
· Attends required training and staff meetings.
· Conducts regular and routine visits to vendor operations.
· Maintain day-to-day contact with vendors to resolve crisis situations, assist in maintaining relationships with grantor and customers, and aid in the resolution of problems arising in the business.
· Develop standards for each vendor operation and evaluate each on an annual basis, based on those standards.
· Maintain equipment inventory.
· Prepare claims for payment on repairs, transfers, and purchase of new equipment.
· Prepare and maintain case records.
· Serve on various committees, such as the selection committee, and counselor advisory committee.
· Supervises BEP Technician.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
