The Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) is one component of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). AIB includes the manufacturing facility in Talladega, Alabama and Birmingham, Alabama along with the operations of five Base Supply Centers in two states, which are located on Redstone Arsenal, Fort Novosel, Anniston Army Depot, Robins Air Force Base and Moody Air Force Base.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Store Manager will serve as a member of Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) leadership team in a Total Quality Management (TQM) environment. To manage a Base Supply Center in compliance with the Ability One, formerly the Javit’s Wagner O’Day Act, Alabama Industries for the Blind, federal and military regulations.
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in the Sales & Marketing Department as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high quality work. This position reports to the Base Supply Center Coordinator.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate
· Minimum (3) three years’ work experience in store management or similar military experience.
· Must complete a criminal history background check and be able to gain access to the military base.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals that are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled or has another significant disability.
· Minimum (3) three years’ work experience in buying, planning and/or scheduling.
· Knowledgeable on laws and regulations governing military installations.
· General knowledge of procurement through Defense Logistics System.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
- Must follow Anniston Army Depot guidance and regulations to maintain access to the base.
- Must understand, support and follow the mission of the AbilityOne Program by remaining in compliance of statutory and regulatory requirements set forth in the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act. You are expected to conduct all business ethically and lawfully.
- May be required to travel to other Base Supply Centers or Alabama Industries for the Blind Business Office. A reasonable accommodation of a staff driver will be supplied for an applicant that is visually impaired or blind.

- Possess computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) necessary to create and maintain records and reports.
- Obtain base license for securing vehicle as needed.
- Demonstrate a good attendance record. May be required to work overtime to meet on time delivery schedules.
- Must be able to perform your responsibilities that sets a good example for others to follow.
- Must be able to deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIB Team to include co-workers, Sales and Marketing Department, Base Supply Center Coordinator, Sales and Marketing Manager, and Executive Director.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and deal with changes in the work assignments.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must complete a criminal history background check and be able to gain and maintain access to the military base.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Become knowledgeable of all AIDB Policies and Procedures.
- To be an active participant in the development and implementation of a strategic plan designed to increase training and work opportunities for people who are blind while preserving and enhancing the financial soundness of the organization.
- Work with Human Resources Institute Partner for recommendations relative to employees for employment and/or transfer decisions, annual performance evaluations, progressive discipline process, recommendation for termination of employment that follow AIDB Policies and Procedures, Federal and State Laws.
- Manage a retail store selling products to federal government and other publics as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain customer relations to enhance sales, image and mission of the Alabama Industries for the Blind and to educate base customers on the Ability One Program.
- Seek out and bid on Request for Quotes through base contacts and other sources.
- Assist in securing production from Alabama Industries for the Blind, the General Services Administration, Defense Logistics Agency sources, National Industries for the Blind affiliated agencies or other suppliers in keeping with the intent of such stores and in compliance with Alabama Industries for the Blind established buying guidelines.
- Maintaining pricing policies on merchandise according to requirement for profitability of store operations and assure pricing policies are followed. Regularly perform market basket surveys and periodically review items margins.
- Assist in loading of new items, set and maintain order points for merchandise.
- Order merchandise or prepare requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand.
- Review receivables regularly and follow up to make certain payment is received in a timely manner.
- Coordinate sales promotion activities and prepare merchandise displays.
- Plan and prepare work schedules, assign specific duties to employees.
- Supervise employees engaged in sales work, taking of inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, and preparing daily record of transactions for accounting.
- Ensure that the employees are in compliance with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices.
- Handle customer relations, including complaints and inquires.
- Responsible to lock and secure store.
- In the absence of Purchasing Technician, Store Clerk, Warehouse Clerk or Delivery Driver, perform the duties of the position. The Store Manager may perform all these duties or share them for stores that may not can support all these positions.
- Participate with taking and entering physical inventories to include reviewing inventory reports and maintaining for accuracy.
- Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
- Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training within the first six (6) months of employment.
SALARY: $58,656 - $80,000 Scale A1 Rank 07
Direct deposit is required.
The work schedule is based on a total of 40 hours each work week. This is a non-exempt position, and is not subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
