ABOUT THE ROLE
The NTID Regional STEM Center (NRSC) is a collaboration between the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and AIDB. The NRSC serves twelve states in the Southeast, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
The mission of the NRSC is to promote STEM educational initiatives and career awareness for students who are Deaf and hard of hearing in primary and secondary schools.
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in developing NRSC’s STEM Academy. Initially, you will work at the pilot STEM School at the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, AL. You will provide support to Math or English Language Arts teachers. You will simultaneously collaborate with our team of robotics and engineering trainers to develop an integrated curriculum for high school. After the pilot program, your office will be based in Decatur, Alabama, near Huntsville, which is considered “the next Silicon Valley.” Relocation will be required.
This position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and some travel. Additionally, you will create workshops that provide exposure and training on various topics in the field.
You will coordinate and be responsible for development of resources and curriculum for the STEM Academy. Close collaboration with the NRSC training team will support other programs. You will also present at conferences and network with others to promote NRSC, participate in instruction and support of NRSC’s summer camps, and engage in research and development of new STEM programs to stay current with trends in the field.
This position will significantly contribute to the future STEM Academy, to be located in Decatur, Alabama with your role changing to classroom math teacher for high school.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Master’s Degree in STEM-related fields from an accredited college/university OR Minimum of a Master’s Degree in ELA or Math.
- Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate or valid certification in another state with ability to obtain reciprocity within six months of hire date.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or general Information Technology in Deaf Education OR Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field.
- SCPI proficiency level of upon hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate Degree in Deaf Education or STEM Content area from an accredited college or university.
- Experience presenting at conferences.
- Experience coordinating events
- Experience in teaching Mathematics or English Language Arts
- Experience co-teaching and/or teacher mentoring
- Experience developing curriculum, instructional adaptation or universal design implementation
- Experience identifying, implementing, and using assessment instruments and data to drive instruction
- Experience evaluating, comparing, and implementing curriculum and effective instruction practices
- Experience working with assessment tools and systems
- Experience establishing and maintaining training systems, processes, and practices to support STEM related instruction
Position Requirements:
- Must be familiar with special education laws including IDEA.
- Must be able to collaborate with teachers, coordinators, support staff, and administrators to assist in raising the level of instruction and rigor
- Must be able to develop and maintain rapport with constituencies within AIDB as well as in organizations serving special student populations statewide, regionally and nationally.
- Must be able to travel up to fifty (50) percent by car, train or plane nationwide.
- Work a flexible schedule as needed including nights and weekends.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between various in-person working environments
- SALARY: $67,483 - $87,759 Scale G1 Rank IA
$71,844 - $92,764 Scale G1 Rank II

This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time
provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
