The expansion of programs at our AIDB North campus in Decatur, Alabama, creates new opportunities and challenges as a new campus is being created. This position will provide janitorial services for all aspects of the campus.
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in general housekeeping maintenance to ensure the campus is clean, organized, and disinfected. You will have a sense of hospitality, integrity, pride in your work and a passion for cleanliness and organization. You will be a part of the AIDB North Operations team in producing high quality work. You will be required to perform your responsibilities in a manner that sets a good example for our students, consumers, staff, visitors, and guests at all levels. You must be able to follow instructions and deal with frequent interruptions and changes in work assignments.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year janitorial and/or building care experience.
- Must have general knowledge of janitorial and housekeeping techniques.
- Must have experience operating janitorial equipment such as buffers, floor sweepers, etc.
- Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery.
- Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Must demonstrate enough vision to recognize and report safety hazards and clean effectively.
- Must be willing to complete a skills assessment to demonstrate good hand coordination prior to employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current or recent janitorial experience for a school, college, residential, or hospital system.
- Current or recent janitorial experience in a multi building environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
- May be required to attend conferences, in-service training and other functions.
- Must be able to operate certain janitorial equipment such as buffers, floor sweepers and vacuum cleaners.
- Must be physically capable of lifting, moving, carrying, and handling equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to perform simple repairs of equipment and janitorial property.
- Ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision.
- Stock and maintain supply closets and keep proper inventory ordering items as needed.
- Clean, maintain, and properly stock restrooms.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors.
- Provide carpet care to include stain and dirt removal.
- Carryout deep cleaning tasks and special assignments to include general cleanup after events.
- Wash and clean windows and mirrors.
- Dust furniture and fixtures.
- Collect and remove trash and practice proper waste management.
- Wash bed linens and make beds as required.
- Maintain outdoor grounds to keep campus free of trash and debris.
- Report maintenance issues and unsafe conditions or concerns.
- Work with grounds crew team when necessary to remove debris, leaves, snow, and other obstructions.
- Assist other department staff as needed.
- Work with contract cleaning vendors when necessary and required.
- Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
- Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training Class and successfully pass with a 90% within the first six (6) months of employment.

SALARY: $14.00 - $16.24 Scale C5 Rank 27

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Payroll Schedule – Semi-monthly, Direct Deposit is required
