Robotics Camp (Talladega, AL): June 1-7, 2025

Alabama STEM Academy (Decatur, AL): June 8-28, 2025

Florida STEM Academy (Jacksonville, FL): July 8-30, 2025

ABOUT THIS POSITION: STEM Academy is a program designed to improve academic skills, develop leadership skills, and enhance college readiness skills for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This position will work with the NRSC team to assess students’ knowledge/skills and develop lessons and materials to improve students’ academic skills and/or functioning levels. Pre-assessments and post-assessments will be completed by instructors. Training for instructors will be available and there will be an allowance for additional paid time for classroom planning purposes. The Instructional program will be 3 weeks during the summer months. Instructors will work a five-day work week.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a valid teaching certificate upon employment.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in Deaf Education.
  • Possess a sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference to previous experience working with STEM Academy.
  • Preference to a license in related mental health field for the wellness teacher.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individualized instruction to students and be knowledgeable of reading, writing and/or math instructional strategies.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and tools appropriate to the needs of the student.
  • Use lessons, assessments, and content materials aligned with CCR Standards that integrate instruction across content areas.
  • Provide classroom/on-site supervision and management to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Effective utilization of teacher aides within the classroom setting as assigned by the NRSC STP Coordinator.
  • Exhibit appropriate grooming and dress which serves as an acceptable role model for students.
  • Assist in the implementation of field trips, extracurricular, and special activities as requested.
  • Possess competence in the use of computer programs and online courseware.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others, including individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Upon being offered employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY: $42.91 per hour Scale PH Rank 01
