ABOUT THE ROLE
Provide art education for K-12 to deaf and hard of hearing students. Be able to incorporate STEM concepts into art classes in different areas of digital art, De'VIA, painting, photography, and drawing.
ABOUT YOU
You would create innovating experiences and activities to K-12 deaf and hard of hearing students.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Visual Art, Special Education (HI Certification), Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education, from an accredited college/university.
· Must hold valid Alabama Teaching Certification or valid certification in another state with the ability to obtain reciprocity within six months of hire from the Alabama Department of Education.
· Utilize a full range if communication and language levels including use of sign, spoken language, and any additional modes of communication.
· Must provide recent documentation of sign language proficiency (SLPI) or take a sign language proficiency evaluation (SLPI) available through AIDB.
· Must possess a sign language proficiency evaluation of upon employment.
o must be obtained within 24 months of employment.
o must be obtained within 36 months of employment.
· Must possess excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Master’s Degree in Visual Art, Special Education and/or Deaf Education from an accredited college/university.
· One (1) year or more of classroom experience.
· A sign language proficiency evaluation of upon employment
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Must pass Visual Arts Praxis within 24 months of hire if degree/certification is not in Visual Arts.
· Must have or be able to obtain HI Certification within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
· A willingness to teach other CTE classes such as transition, career explorations, Career Preparedness, and art classes.
· Be able to teach a wide variety of art classes including visual art, graphic art, digital art, De’Via art, etc.
· Assist with extracurricular programs such as ASD Youth Ambassador program and Career Day, and Art Show/Contests.
· Incorporate STEM activities with Art lessons.
· Provide comprehensive instruction to students at ASD (K-12) that includes developing and implementing lesson plans, maintaining documentation of student progress in subject matter, use of differentiated instruction that is based on individual student needs.
· Develop and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each assigned student in the ASD program based on school curriculum and state standards. Must be able to conduct IEP meetings with parents and colleagues.
· Other duties as assigned.

The annual employment period will be 187 days to include such holidays, sick leave, insurance r-9907benefits, and other benefits as are established by the President and the Board of Trustees.
SALARY: $46,812 – $73,640 Scale lC Rank 2T (BS-Class B)
$54,870 – $84,580 Scale lC Rank 1T (MA-Class A)
$58,413 – $89,382 Scale lC Rank AA (AA Certification)
