What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Part-time) position at ALABAMA REGIONAL MEDICAL SERVICES?
SUMMARY: Provide psychiatric services, physical and psychosocial examination of patients. Responsible for diagnosing, conducting, and prescribing medications for patients having psychiatric-mental health problems and those likely to have them. Develop appropriate treatment plan and provide effective management of patient care with proper evaluation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for providing care to patients showing a change or decline in mental status, chronic or urgent medical conditions.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Conduct various laboratory tests.
- Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
- Prepares a comprehensive patient care plan.
- Submit health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluations by Physician.
- Recommends drugs and other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
- Counsels and advises patients in such areas as substance abuse, recognition and prevention of communicable illnesses, maintaining health lifestyle, etc.
- Participates in the ARMS Quality Improvement Plan
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possess bachelor's degree in nursing followed by a master's degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health
Health Nursing from a state approved and accredited school for professional nursing training
Obtained Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Minimum of two years' experience working with patients who have serious mental illness or substance abuse disorders, preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and/or
American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
