Our Shipyard History : The facility was initially established in 1916. It was one of the original nine emergency yards funded by the U.S. Maritime Commission during WWII, becoming one of the largest employers in Southern Alabama while producing Liberty Ships and T-2 Tankers for the war effort. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the activities of a group or team of production employees within the Pipe Department involved in a specific production, repair, or material handling proctor to meet Company quality and safety standards within production schedules, in the most cost-effective manner. Supervises craft hourly employees. This position works under the supervision of the Pipe Superintendent on the repair of vessels utilizing different types of equipment, etc. necessary to perform and complete projects as directed.
Essential job duties include :
Communicate with the Operations Manager, Superintendent, and craftsman to perform project requirements as necessary.Must have leadership and supervisory capabilitiesMust read and understand job information, letters / booklets, blueprint drawings, load-out drawings, job procedures, etc.Must have general knowledge of all equipment and tools necessary to perform the duties.Must be able to supervise and communicate directly to all personnel of being performed on the job.Must be able to motivate and guide personnel in a safe performance on the jobMust be able to detect and supervise the correction of safety hazards in the workplaceMust be able to keep a supply inventory of materials, parts, and equipment sufficient for all project operationsMust keep all procedures and certifications updated and on fileMust be able to read, understand, and fill out forms and necessary paperworkAttends / participates in safety meetings and assists in generating Job Safety Analysis (JSA's), and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) guidelines for all job operations.Performs work as a crew member where each depends on others for safe operations and emergency evacuation.Performs other duties as assigned.Must be able to work overtime as needed.Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
No minimum education requirement.High School or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.Five years experience in vessel repair specifically in Pipe Fitting and Pipe Welding.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
