JOB DESCRIPTION:
Alabama State University, Academic Affairs/College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics invites applicants to submit applications to fill the vacant position of Dean. Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for the academic leadership and general management of all the academic programs and activities within the college.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advises the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs on personnel matters within the college
- Recommends collegiate faculty and staff
- Determines scheduling of courses, assignments of teaching loads, and recommends the implementation of additional courses and curriculum changes
- Participates in activities of faculty committees
- Coordinates the development of the collegiate budget
- Advises the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs on academic maters related to the college and the university
- Evaluates academic programs
- Manages accreditation activities and requirements within the college
- Supervises department chairpersons in the preparation of evaluations and recommendations concerning members of their faculty
- Serves as liaison with external stakeholders, including arts and community agencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned doctorate from an accredited institution with a record of distinguished scholarship, research, teaching, and service in one of the fields of science, mathematics or technology within the college. A minimum of 5 years of successful academic leadership at the level of department chair or above is preferred; credentials to qualify for the rank of professor in one of the college's academic departments; substantial administrative experience with academic budgeting and financial planning; a successful record of developing, implementing, and sustaining innovative policies and programs that foster excellence in teaching, research, and service in higher education; experience relating to external constituencies such as public agencies, funding agencies, industry, alumni, and donors, including a focus on garnering philanthropic, corporate, and grant support; demonstrated record of excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills including the ability to motivate faculty and staff in cooperative efforts to support the University's strategic vision.
It is to be noted that for the purpose of continuous improvement of faculty qualifications as faulty members complete advanced degrees, certifications, licenses, etc., the faculty member will send official documentation, within 45 days of hire, to the Office of Human Resources, and the credentialing file in Academic Affairs.
