What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Writing Center position at Alabama State University?
Alabama State University, University College, invites applications for Director of the Writing Center. The Writing Center serves students, faculty, and courses within the disciplines and across the curriculum at ASU. The successful applicant will initiate faculty development programs to improve writing pedagogy, establish and assess student learning goals and outcomes, and serve on undergraduate and graduate committees to represent writing programs and ensure writing outcomes are being met. The Director of the Writing Center has primary responsibility of managing the daily operations of the center, including scheduling all aspects of center's instructions as well as supervising and mentoring writing lab instructors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops a place for creating a culture of writing, and promotes writing across the curriculum and within disciplines of study at ASU
- Works with all facets of writing instructions as ASU to facilitate delivery, assessment, and effective use of writing resources
- Consults with interdisciplinary faculty and provides assistance with teaching writing in the curriculum
- Designs and conducts workshops and faculty consultations on the teaching of writing
- Manages the daily operations of the writing center including schedules and budgets
- Hires, supervises and trains writing lab instructor and tutors
- Recruits, educates, and manages graduate and undergraduate writing instructors
- Stays current with innovations in the field of writing center studies
- Conducts writing center program assessments, and oversees the development and implementation of policy in the Writing Center Tutor Handbook
- Perform other duties as assigned
