What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Security Officer position at Alabama State University?
Alabama State University, Levi Watkins Learning Center, invites applications for the position of Security Officer I. Under direct supervision of the evening and weekend managers of the LWLC, the security office will provide security and protection for students, faculty, staff and other persons utilizing the library. The security officer will also assist in security the library facilities, operations, equipment, and LWLC parking areas for the unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the library building inside and outside so that law and order are preserved
- Deter crimes and the destruction of library materials
- Answer call and complaint involving fire and weather safety, misdemeanors, first aid and prepares detailed incident investigative reports
- Interview persons with complaint and inquiries and attempt to make proper disposition or direct them to the proper authorities
- Process all LWLC incident reports to ensure they are recorded and are forwarded o the proper campus authorities
- Attend regular training classes in police methods, first aid, target practice and other law enforcement related workshops to maintain all certifications
- Work as a liaison to, and in conjunction with the ASU Department of Public Safety
- Assist as needed in securing other campus, museums, and cultural heritage events
- Conduct scheduled walks of the building on a rotating basis to observe areas for issues of safety and security of library personnel and patrons
- Assist the library personnel with opening and closing procedures of the facility as scheduled
- Warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering, and carrying forbidden articles on campus
- Perform other duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED, be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record, have at least 5 years of experience as a security officer, and must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving force, violence, or moral turpitude, are required.
