What the Role Entails

The Business Development Manager at Alabama Steel is responsible for overseeing sales efforts within an assigned region, focusing on both acquiring new clients and nurturing existing relationships. They will leverage their deep understanding of steel products, market dynamics, and customer needs to provide tailored solutions that drive revenue growth. The role includes managing pricing agreements, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with internal teams to enhance the customer experience. The Business Development Manager will travel within the territory to meet clients, attend industry events, and explore new business opportunities.

Performance Objectives :

First 30 Days – Onboarding and Market Understanding

  • Acclimate to Alabama Steel’s operations, products, and internal processes.
  • Review the company’s product offerings, including steel products and solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Learn about the assigned sales territory, key clients, and business dynamics within the construction and manufacturing industries.
  • Meet with internal teams to understand support systems and processes for sales, marketing, logistics, and product development.
  • Begin developing an understanding of industry trends and competitive activity in the region.
  • Start building relationships with internal stakeholders and key clients in the territory.
  • 60 Days – Sales Leadership and Relationship Building

  • Begin driving sales efforts and expanding the client base within the assigned territory.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within the territory, leveraging referrals, industry connections, and market research.
  • Develop tailored solutions for clients based on their unique needs, leveraging Alabama Steel’s product expertise.
  • Establish strong relationships with key decision-makers, focusing on customer satisfaction and long-term account growth.
  • Collaborate with marketing and logistics teams to enhance the customer experience and ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Start tracking sales performance and forecast revenue growth in alignment with company objectives.
  • 90 Days – Revenue Growth and Strategic Impact

  • Demonstrate a significant contribution to sales growth and account retention.
  • Lead the sales efforts within the territory, focusing on expanding both new and existing accounts.
  • Regularly track and report on sales performance, providing insights into customer demands and market conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to increase order volume and upsell additional products or services to existing clients.
  • Manage pricing agreements and negotiate contracts, ensuring alignment with both company and client objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts, ensuring exceptional service and fostering long-term retention.
  • Attend industry events and travel within the territory to meet clients and explore new business opportunities.
