What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civilian Court Security position at Alachua County Sheriff's Office (FL)?
- Highly responsible position assisting Court Security Deputies in maintaining security and decorum in the various courts of the Alachua County judicial system. Will be required to collect DNA and Fingerprint submission in various court events.
- Responsible for assisting the operation of security posts at the main and staff/services entrances and judicial suites, and for monitoring the security equipment located in the control room. Will respond to medical emergencies within the courthouses and assist with emergency evacuations of the building. This position shall not have direct supervision over persons in custody
- Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Court Security Sergeant. Performance is evaluated through observation, results obtained, appropriate employee performance appraisals, and oral/written reports.
- Assist with providing security for judges, attorneys, witnesses, court employees, and the general public
- Assist in opening Circuit Court, County Court, and other judicial proceedings as required
- Assist Court Security Deputies in order to conduct efficient day-to-day operations of the courtroom and other judicial functions
- Assist in calling witnesses in court
- Respond to medical emergencies or other occurrences which arise within the courthouse
- Assist with miscellaneous duties assigned by the judge
- Assist with any additional duties required by the Sheriff or through situational necessity
- Assist with emergency evacuation of the courthouse
- Notify rescue or other appropriate authority and provide emergency assistance in disaster or other emergency situations
- Maintain an alert and business-like manner within the courthouse
- Observe all persons who arouse suspicion and notify a Court Security Deputy of any person whose appearance, conduct, or presence seems suspicious
- Write reports as directed in departmental procedures
- Collect DNA and fingerprint samples for FDLE submission

- Commendable law enforcement record
- Be in good standing with CJSTC/FDLE or other state law enforcement certification processes/agencies
- Must be a least 21 years of age
- Working conditions are generally stable. All duty assignments are restricted to the inside of the courthouse.
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Preferred Major(s): Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or other related field.
- EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Previous or current CJSTC/FDLE law enforcement certification preferred
- 15 to 20 years of prior law enforcement experience desirable
- Able to act effectively without direct supervision; to exercise discretion, caution, reasonable calmness and self-control under adverse conditions and maintain control of a particular situation or emergency
- CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:
- Current, valid Florida driver license
