What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Administrator position at Alachua County Sheriff's Office (FL)?
The essential function of this position is to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot computer network performance, connectivity and security related issues. This position is also responsible for; analyzing and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, reviewing reports and system traffic to identify problem areas, installing and maintaining networking hardware and software, providing prompt and professional customer service at all times, and performing related technical and administrative tasks as assigned. Highly responsible professional who works to maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient mission critical network. Responsible for multiple Windows based servers to include capacity planning for server resources, SQL/VMWARE, and database security, integrity, replication, backups, and recovery. Maintains, configures, updates, and designs large multi-campus Cisco and HP based networks including firewalls, routers, and network switches including associated fiber optic, copper, and wireless infrastructure.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Complies with HIPAA regulations, and maintains security of all data, applications, and facility.

- Implement and maintain the Network and related components, including routers, gateways, remote VPN connections, domain servers, and security firewalls
- Define data security solutions that include the use of encryption
- Configure, monitor, and maintain anti-virus programs to ensure network and systems integrity
- Add and delete users as required on network servers and applications
- Establish and maintain technical standards
- Collect, monitor, and analyze systems to improve performance
- Design, configure, and install both servers and Storage Area Networks
- Plan and implement new operating system releases, fixes, and service packs; evaluate application products and advise on the suitability of equipment and software for implementation
- Perform customization and system administration for network management, task/project management, help-desk, work group integration, documentation, and educational software packages on local and wide area networks
- Analyze, recommend, and evaluate new hardware, software, and communication products for network compatibility and performance
- Write and maintain a library of technical documentation for a large variety of technical issues
- Work with cross-functional teams in the design and implementation of information technology
- Assist in the training of other ITB staff to improve their technical skills
- Assist management with development of system standards, short and long term goals, project management, and strategic directions
- Keep current on new developments and techniques in information technology
- Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions
- Implement appropriate security access provisions to protect network integrity from internal and external malicious and/or non-authorized users
- Maintain control over the addition and removal of user access to the network
- Assist with, coordinate, and/or provide training for Sheriff’s Office employees on relevant IT related topics
- Make recommendations for system upgrades, replacement, and maintenance purchases

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Four (4) or more years of professional server and security administration experience deploying network security solutions, producing detailed documentation, and utilizing excellent communication skills while working both independently and in a team environment
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience
- Six (6) or more total years of professional server and security administration experience, may substitute for an Associate’s degree
- Current, valid Florida driver’s license
- MCSE, MDBA, CNE, and CCNA certifications preferred
- CJIS Certification within six (6) months of hire
