What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Island Operations and Landscaping position at Alaka‘i Executive Search?
Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for overall management of Landscaping departments. Assists managers in their operations as assigned and oversees day-to-day administration of the operations in compliance with established policies and procedures. Formulates and recommends policies and operating procedures to address issues relative to the operations.
Reporting Relationship:
Reports to: President
Supervises: Landscaping Operation Managers

• Conduct individual and business affairs in highest ethical and legal fashion.
• Establish and contribute to a supportive, creative, enthusiastic, and cooperative working environment for all.
• Develop specific objectives, performance standards, and individual development plans for all personnel; responsible for regularly providing progress with each person.
• Build strong communication links with supervisors, peers, and employees.
• Comply with all Company policies and standards.
Essential Duties:
1. Plans, directs, and implements Company programs aimed at providing administrative support the for the Company’s activities.
2. Directs preparation of budgets, long range studies, and financial analysis for Company activities.
3. Assures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities of direct subordinates are defined and understood.
4. Responsible for employee conformance to established practices.
5. Ensures proper training of staff, prepares related reports, and audits current procedures for improved efficiency.
6. Responsible for conducting operations studies to clarify and correct procedural problems.
7. Assists in reviewing feasibility of new or revised operations systems and procedures.
8. Defines and recommends objectives and develops specific short and long range plans and programs together with supporting budget requests.
9. Cooperates in audits to ensure compliance with established standards.
10. Participates in short and long range planning in areas of possible growth, expansion, and new opportunities.
11. Maintains continuing liaison with appropriate in-house departments and public agencies in order to achieve financial and operating objectives.
12. Develops and recommends corporate and operations policy.
13. Directs the Company’s ongoing operations and activities toward the accomplishment of corporate objectives.
14. Directs the preparation of specifications for purchase of supplies and materials as to the quality, quantity, delivery, and service required.
15. Develops and recommends plans for facility and operational improvement.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements:
• Requires 6 years of experience in managing multiple Landscaping operations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or Landscaping, preferred.
• Must be proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
• Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
• Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
• Ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
Required Work Cards/Certifications:
• Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record
• Current State of Hawai‘i Pesticide Applicators Certification
Salary : $130,000 - $160,000
