Job Purpose
The AMSS Technology Specialist is responsible for managing the advanced manufacturing makerspace at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH). This role includes technical, instructional, and administrative duties to support Combat Logistics Company 33's (CLC 33) advanced manufacturing goals. The specialist will provide expertise in additive and subtractive manufacturing, deliver training, and ensure the operational readiness of equipment and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
The job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Oversee daily operations of the makerspace.
Maintain, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on Government-Owned Equipment (GOE),including 3D printers, CNC routers, laser cutters, and other tools.
Ensure inventory management of consumables like printer filaments and spare parts.
Track and manage work orders, equipment status, and maintenance records using designated systems like APSR.
Assist in delivering formal and informal training for Marines on 3D printing fundamentals, including software, materials, and post-processing.
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) skills.
Maintenance and repair techniques for advanced manufacturing equipment.
Support established training curricula without creating new instructional content.
Facilitate hands-on skill challenges and exercises to enhance learning.
Coordinate and execute rapid prototyping requests using additive and subtractive manufacturing processes.
Perform quality control using destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
Document and certify processes and products in accordance with Marine Corps standards and upload records to the Digital Manufacturing Data Vault (DMDV).
Generate monthly reports on: Maintenance and readiness of GOE, Inventory levels and material usage and Training conducted and prototyping projects completed.
Create visually appealing storyboards highlighting makerspace accomplishments for higher headquarters.
Serve as the primary point of contact for AM/SM integration within the Marine Corps and with external stakeholders, including the AMS Program Office, 3d MLG, and III MEF.
Participate in AM/SM working groups, tech fairs, and other events to promote innovation and collaboration.
Foster relationships with regional and joint partners to enhance makerspace capabilities.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA and DoD standards, and maintain appropriate records for inspections.
Complete required training, such as Antiterrorism Level I awareness, and ensure compliance with all Marine Corps directives.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Associates degree (bachelors degree preferred) in a relevant field such as Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.
Equivalent work experience in advanced manufacturing or engineering can substitute for formal education.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining advanced manufacturing equipment, including 3D printers, CNC routers, and laser cutters.
Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk)and Computer- Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software (e.g., Mastercam).
Familiarity with quality control methods, including destructive and non-destructive testing.
At least 3-5 years of experience in additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, or a related technical field.
Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk)
and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software (e.g., Mastercam).
Familiarity with quality control methods, including destructive and non-destructive testing.
Ability to train others on the use of advanced manufacturing tools and techniques, including formal classroom instruction and informal on-the-job training
Preferred:
Certifications in additive manufacturing (e.g., SME Additive Manufacturing Certification), CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks Certified Professional), or CAM tools.
Experience working in a military or DoD environment is a significant advantage.
