Qualifications and Job Description
  • Reports to the Principal
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Elementary: Reads The First Six Weeks of School and uses the Responsive Classroom approach and creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of the student.
  • Middle: Read the middle school Responsive Advisory Meeting book and become familiar with middle school Responsive Classroom practices.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. Develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned caseload. Plans and implements instruction as outlined in students’ IEPs.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of the students
  • Lesson plans are based on the student’s IEP goals and objectives and assessment data and weekly lesson plans are written and meet the ACS lesson plan non-negotiables.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and serves as a role model for students
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicates these objectives to students
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students involved
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Maintains a record of the data used to determine whether or not goals and objectives are met
  • Serves as a case manager for assigned caseload
  • Collaborates with general education teachers and other members of assigned caseloads’ IEP team
  • Schedules meetings as needed/ required, and provides all members of the IEP team with advanced notice of meetings
  • Seeks assistance from the EC Facilitator as needed.
  • Communicates with parents regarding their children’s progress
  • Maintains documentation of students’ present levels of performance
  • Provides written, data-driven progress reports which describe how students are progressing on IEP goals
  • Advocates for students and is honest and fair while encouraging their success
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and administrative regulation
  • Meets given deadlines for annual reviews and reevaluations
  • Maintains documentation of provision of service delivery and is able to provide this documentation as requested
  • Assists the Administration in implementing all policies and rules governing the Exceptional Children's Program
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Attends meetings and serves on staff committees as required
  • Works with the Administration to ensure that all data is properly maintained for each student in PowerSchool & ECATS
  • Works with the Administration to ensure compliance with district reporting in Powerschool
  • Works closely with the Administration to ensure proper placement of new students in correct grade level and programs
  • Assists the Administration, as needed in developing curriculum standards for instruction
  • Maintains open communications with students, staff and families.
  • Assists the Administration in all aspects of test security and related paperwork (where applicable) and assists the EC Facilitator & the Test Coordinator with the creation of small group testing environments
  • Participates with the MTSS Team, when needed
  • Assists the Administration with the data analysis of assessments/tests, and grade distribution
  • Attends school, district, and professional meetings, as necessary
  • Visits and observes in classrooms and provides follow-up consultation
  • Assists the Administration in providing orientation, in-service training, and professional development for department personnel as needed
  • Stays informed of best practices, trends, and educational innovations
  • Complies with the Daily Check-in and out System
  • Reads and Understands the entire Employee Handbook
