What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advanced Practice Provider III position at Alamance County Government?
This position is an advanced level APP professional position and has a dual role in direct customer care and serving as the APP team lead with administrative and supervisory duties. Advanced professional work as an advanced practice provider providing medical care in the following areas: maternal health, women's health/family planning, STD, and child health clinics. Administrative duties are to help create cohesive team dynamics and representative APP staff and team needs through the agency and community.
Clinical
- Maternity clinic providing prenatal, postpartum and primary medical care both in the routine setting as well as Centering Pregnancy setting
- Women’s health/family planning clinic- providing preventive screenings, well-woman, contraceptive counseling, gynecological care and LARC procedures
- Child health clinic providing well childcare and access to care appointments, no sick care
- Sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinic providing care to males and females, adolescents and adults
- Assist with medical care in tuberculosis control clinic (TB) as needed
- Specific duties in the above clinic areas include:
- obtaining pertinent patient history
- performing indicated physical examination
- ordering necessary diagnostic and screening tests and interpreting results
- formulating an assessment and plan based upon available data; documentation of findings, impression, and plan in electronic medical records
- prescription of birth control methods
- insertion/removal of FDA approved LARC methods
- writing, labeling, and dispensing prescriptions as necessary
- providing patient education
- arranging referrals as needed
- consulting with collaborating physician as needed
- providing medical consultation within scope of practice to public health nurses in women's health, maternity, child health, STD, immunizations and TB Programs
- Provide internal consultation for APP II practitioners with regular review with medical director
- Provide clinical coverage during staff shortages, absences and vacations
Administrative
- Provide support and lead APP team
- Review leave requests and work with clinic manager regarding customer schedules
- Lead or help with daily huddles, clinic information review, clinic data review
- Attend and lead interdisciplinary care coordination meetings
- Lead and collaborate with medical director for monthly APP team meetings
- Meet with APP staff quarterly to review professional development and work
- Meet with APP staff in a timely fashion for customer feedback or billing/documentation issues
- Administer annual APP performance appraisals
- Attend appropriate agency team meetings such as clinical management team, supervisor meeting, leadership team.
- Attend board of health when at the request of health director, medical director or nursing director
- Represent medical director/clinical team at community meetings such as community connections or perinatal regional meetings, or those assigned by supervisor
- Support individual program/clinic coordination and help with RN coordinator duties when assigned
- Annually, assist development and review of agency program nursing standing orders
- Assist and provide guidance to nurse supervisors and program coordinators for procedure manual revisions
*Administrative time may be utilized for clinical services if there are provider shortages or vacations

- NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and two years of experience as an APP; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- More than 5 years of APP practice
- Centering Pregnancy--Centering Pregnancy experience, Centering Pregnancy Basic Facilitation training
- Bilingual/Fluent in both Spanish and English both oral and written.
- Ability to independently perform Nexplanon and IUD insertions/removal and train/precept others
- Training or experience in leadership, team building, team dynamics
- Training in giving feedback
- Ability to work in all clinical areas at ACHD (including Child Health),
- Experience with Epic EMR
- Training and experience identifying and implementing best clinical practice strategies.
- Experience with policy development and implementation.
