What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Permitting Technician position at Alamance County Government?
Employees within this position works under general supervision with the primary responsibility of serving the public by expediting the building permit process in providing technical and clerical assistance.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Acts as the first point of contact for customers inquiring about and submitting building related permits.
- Provides information to applicants, assists customers with permit applications, government forms and other documents; answers phones and responds to requests for information.
- Reviews and issues residential and commercial building permit applications
- Assists with educating the public on the contractor portal for scheduling all inspections related to active projects.
- Accepts and processes payment for permits and fines.
- Attends workshops, meetings and programs as offered and available.
- Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
- Will be expected to perform other assignments and projects as needed and trained to support the Inspections Department.

Education & Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent is required. Prior central permitting experience is preferred.
.Computer Skills: Must have a basic to intermediate functional knowledge of computers. Experience with the internet, email, Microsoft Word, preferred.
License/Credentials/Requirement: Preference given to Notary Public certified individuals.
