What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract/Temporary Dental Assistant position at Alamance County Government?

- Responsible for dental units: Maintain supplies in drawer and on counter tops, maintain cleanliness and sterility of unit, chair, counter tops and instruments, perform routine maintenance of the unit's equipment such as oiling handpieces and cleaning suction traps, turn unit and equipment on/off, report any deficiencies in equipment to the clinic manager.
- Maintain sterilization and tray set-up area: Clean, sterilize, process, and ready instruments and supplies for tray set up, change ultrasonic solution daily, clean and maintain autoclave, maintain and supply x-ray room and processor, and assist in overall clinic readiness.
- Patient Contact: Take x-rays, seat and ready patient for dental health care provider.
- Operatory Patient Care: Assist dental care provider at chairside: provide proper instruments on tray set ups, help reassure patients and assist provider in managing patients, place and/or remove Rubber Dams, take pulse, blood pressure, height and weight, provide all materials and instruments directly requested by provider, mix materials i.e.: cements, alloys requested by provider, record exact words dictated by the dentist in the patient electronic record, and provide post-op instructions as dictated by dentist.
- Preventive Patient Care: provide tooth brushing instructions, provide toothbrush prophy, polish Coronal portion of teeth, floss teeth, apply topical fluorides, apply sealants, inform and educate parents of children about proper oral hygiene methods.
- Cleanup Responsibilities: clean all sinks, mirrors, and countertops daily, clean and change solution in ultrasonic, clean and maintain autoclave, dry heat, and statim, perform spore test weekly, change Cidex solution monthly, maintain proper oil levels in Assistant, maintain Oxygen and Nitrous tanks, run hot water and purevac through all suction lines, and maintain water lines by using proper sterilization methods.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a dental assistant program from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant and required x-ray training when needed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
