What are the responsibilities and job description for the Income Maintenance Caseworker III- Long-Term Care position at Alamance County Government?
The primary purpose of this position is to determine eligibility for Adult Medicaid in Long Term Care (LTC) programs and may serve as a back-up for PLA Medicaid, all while utilizing the NC FAST system to manage the applications and caseload.
- Receives and processes applications for LTC programs in accordance with established rules, regulations, policy and procedures in NC FAST from clients and/or their authorized representatives.
- Interview applicants for assistance to determine their eligibility; researches and verifies information provided by applicants.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge and understanding of current and new policy and procedures, preparing and maintaining case files, utilizing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.
- Performs casework functions both in Private Living Arrangement and Long-Term Care Medicaid programs, including intake, application processing, ongoing case management, completing change in circumstances as appropriate, according to policy.
- Coordinates with other inter agency staff and community partners to provide needed services.

Thorough knowledge of income maintenance programs as assigned. Considerable knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. General knowledge of all income maintenance programs. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedures of varying complexity. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Ability to understand customer needs and perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.
Preferred knowledge and interpretation of the Adult Medicaid manual, ability to apply NC FAST job-aids and postcards, knowledge of policies and procedures; ability to understand and apply accounting practices in the maintenance of financial records.
Education & Experience: Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Computer Skills: Prior experience with Microsoft Windows suites of products.
License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver's license.
Additional Position Information: All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
