JOB PURPOSE:   An employee of this class performs professional planning work including assisting in administration of the County’s Land Development Plan and Unified Development Ordinance; provides code enforcement administration; provides technical and non-technical assistance to other County departments, local, state, and federal agencies, citizens, business and other non-governmental entities; assists with community development projects; updates County maps; assists in preparing and updating land use plans and ordinances; assists in the development of GIS data and maps, preparation of research projects, and other duties as directed by the Planning Director. 
Compensation posted is the hiring range of the salary grade. Salary will commensurate with skill set and experience.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provides flood level determinations to insurance companies, surveyors, leading institutions, and property owners.
  • Prepares and presents staff reports, data, project accomplishments for the Planning Board and County Commissioners; communicate at public hearings and writes in a clear, concise and accurate manner. Attend evening and weekend meetings as assigned.
  • Prepare various reports on building, construction, and demographics within the County.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Assists in reviewing watershed site plans and subdivisions for compliance with ordinances; advises citizens and surveyors about plan review status and maintains a file on projects.
  • Copies and provides maps for sale to the public. 
  • Assists in developing land use plans and development ordinances. Assist other departments, agencies, citizens, and businesses by providing data. 
  • Interprets and applies Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations and read and interpret laws underlying general plans and land divisions.
  • Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
  • Will be expected to perform other assignments and projects as needed and trained to support the Planning Department.

Education & Experience:  Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration or a closely related field. Prior experience and knowledge of planning and development principles is preferred but not required.
 Computer Skills:  Prior intermediate level experience with computers, calculators, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).  Prior GIS related experience.
 License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver's license and the ability to maintain a safe driving history as defined by Alamance County policy.
