We are a well-establieshed small animal hospital (general practice) located in the heart of Alameda, California. We're seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Temporary Part Time Kennel Assistant to join our dedicated, dynamic and inclusive team at Alameda Pet Hospital. Your Role Will Include:
Maintaining a Clean and Safe Environment: You'll play a key role in upholding the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation by diligently cleaning and disinfecting the hospital focusing on kennels, runs, and all associated equipment along with basic custodial work. This includes but is not limited to daily cleaning of animal waste, changing bedding, emptying the garbage/recycling receptacles, dusting, mopping, cleaning dishes, spot cleaning the floors and walls, cleaning the bathrooms, and ensuring that all surfaces are free of dirt and debris.
Ensuring Adequate Supplies: You'll be responsible for ensuring that all necessary supplies are readily available by regularly stocking and organizing cleaning supplies for the hospital and food and treats for the kennels. This includes food, water, bedding, cleaning supplies, and any other items necessary for the care of our animal patients.
Providing Essential Animal Care: You'll assist our veterinary team in delivering top-notch care to our boarded and hospitalized patients, which includes feeding, watering, walking, and administering medications as directed. You'll also be expected to recognize and report any signs of illness or distress in our patients, such as changes in appetite, behavior, or physical appearance. Additionally, you will assist with bathing and grooming animals as needed. You’ll have daily opportunities to comfort patients in distress and show extra affection to pets who need reassurance and love.
Assisting with Patient Handling and Restraint: You will learn proper techniques for safely and gently handling and restraining animals for examinations and procedures.
Maintaining Accurate Records: You will be responsible for accurately recording information about animal care, such as feeding schedules, medication administration, and observations of behavior.
Ready to work: Our ideal candidate is 18 or older with valid work authorization in the US and at least 1 year of work or volunteer experience in a professional setting. Our team uses a variety of tech applications from charting our patients to texting our clients so the ability to use these appropriately is vital.
