Minimum Education and Experience:
- A formal training program after high school, such as graduation from an interpreter training program.
- One year of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified interpreting.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified American Sign Language interpreting.
- Must possess and maintain Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Basic Certificate or comparable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
- Comparable certification from other states, pending BEI Certification, is acceptable but BEI certification must be completed within six months of hire. Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply and must complete BEI certification within six months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and be insurable through the organization’s insurers.
