Job Description
As a Fitter you will be responsible for fabricating a wide range of miscellaneous metal projects. This includes cutting and tack welding metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment.
Minimum Starting Salary: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour - depending on experience. Full-time Alamo employees will receive a $1.00/hr shift differential pay.
Shifts Available:
- 1st Shift; Monday - Friday 6:00am-2:30pm (8 hour days)
- 2nd Shift; Monday - Thursday 3:30pm - 3:00am (12 hour days)
Essential Functions:
- Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
- Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
- Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
- Structural welding using FCAW & SMAW.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Properly assemble and disassemble weld setups.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
- Reshape metal workpieces to establish specifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of metal and basic shop fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge and proficiency in MIG welding with the ability to pass a welding test.
- Knowledge of TIG welding is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to withstand pressure and adapt to change.
- Ability to multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years of experience in a structural welding environment.
- Ability to pass a Fillet Weld Test.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
