Fiber to the Premises Technician (FTTX)
Position Summary:

We are seeking a Fiber to the Premises Technician (FTTX) for our Broadband Deployment Services department.
This role involves planning, installing, and maintaining copper and fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor settings. You will work with cutting-edge technology to ensure high-speed internet and telecommunication services are delivered to customers' homes or businesses. Responsibilities include splicing, testing, and repairing fiber optic and copper cables, as well as reading, creating, and maintaining splicing diagrams.
Job Description:
- Install and repair fiber and copper cables and related equipment, including junction boxes, splice closures, and fiber distribution panels.
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.
- Ensure all installations and network components meet industry standards, company guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform tasks associated with electronic upgrades and cable splicing.
- Self-supervise work performed to ensure splicing operations are completed according to customer and industry specifications. Field train and control/oversee the work of other splicers when necessary.
- Safely operate ladders to complete daily construction assignments, which may include climbing utility poles.
- Maintain daily production logs, production reports, mark-up maps, track work hours, complete 'as-built maps' for areas built, and track daily production.
- Reconcile issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities to successfully complete job tasks while accepting full responsibility for the safe operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Pass pre-employment screening process, including background check, drug test, and motor vehicle records pull.
- Able to work outdoors in physically demanding environments and all-weather conditions, lifting up to 50lbs, and hiking over various terrain.
- Possess a current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record and no DUI/DWI within the past 5 years.
- Will travel locally, statewide, or regionally as required.
- Available to work nights and weekends as required by project demands.
Work Environment:
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, depending on the job site.
- Comfortable working on ladders and in confined spaces in commercial and residential settings.
- May be exposed to noise levels ranging from low volume to loud, dust, odors, gases, vapors, varying noise levels, and wet or slick surfaces.
- Work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and terrain; work for long periods in hot, cold, wet, windy, or icy conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Company standards and governmental regulations.
- Lift 50lbs or more.
- Traverse and work in all areas of the job site, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Stand and walk up to eight hours per day, climb multiple flights of stairs while carrying materials, and ride in a vehicle for extended periods to and from job sites.
- Comfortable working in cramped and/or enclosed spaces for extended periods.
- Work in different temperatures and through changing weather conditions.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal long-distance travel required; must be able to travel when needed.
- Lodging and transportation provided while traveling and working out of town.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with fiber optic and copper cable installation and repair.
- Adhere to OSHA, state, city/municipality safety requirements.
- Must have experience splicing fiber optic and/or copper cables.
- Be self-motivated and provide high-quality workmanship.
- Must be able to distinguish colors, read, and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, if necessary.
