SALARY GRADE: $45,843 to $48,843 DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

Prevents crime, enforces laws, apprehends suspects, and assists citizens.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (The following are illustrative of essential functions to perform duties and responsibilities of the job.  The position may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional tasks as needed by the Department.   • Enforces laws and ordinances and investigates violations of the same.
  • Follows department policies and procedures. Studies applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of arrestee rights.
  • Familiar with preventive, protective and defensive tactics.
  • Mediates disputes, responds to notices of disturbance.
  • Patrols assigned areas.
  • Conducts searches.
  • Interrogates suspects, gathers evidence and interviews victims and witnesses.
  • Testifies in court.
  • Must have strong computer skills. Have the ability to document cases, evaluate situations, analyze, and be a strong team player.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. 
  • Show up for work on time and ready to work.
  • Ability to work schedule to meet all the obligation of the position
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Ability to communicate (verbally & in writing) in English
  • Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the County and the Sheriff’s Office
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:​​​​​​​

Knowledge:

  • Knows the laws and ordinances.
  • Understands the department policies and procedures
  • Studies applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • Knows arrestee rights. 

Skills:​​​​​​​

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.
  • Can speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
  • Able to conduct searches.
  • Has interrogation skills to use on suspects to gather evidence.
  • Strong computer skills. 

Abilities:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.’
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:​​​​​​​

  • Colorado Peace Officer’s Certification required. 
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driver’s License Required.
  • Krav tactics preferred.
  • Pressure Points Control Tactic Certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Firearms and fitness qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:​​​​​​​

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must possess the physical ability to run for long periods of time, if necessary, in pursuit of a suspect. Must also possess the ability to contain and apprehend the suspect once captured.  Must be trained in the use of communication equipment, firearms, Electronic Control Board, stun devises, camera equipment, handcuffs and leg irons, tactical equipment, bullet proof vest, PR24 Baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, and O.C. Spray.   Position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The position is required to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience.  Occasionally, the position may stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.  The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and drive for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move from 50 to 100 pounds. The noise level may be very quiet to noisy depending on the situation.
