Assists with customers both in the office and on the telephone. Inspects all types of real property, including residential (single family and multi-family), commercial, agricultural, vacant land and new construction for tax assessment purposes.

- Working in office answering the telephone and assisting customers that come into the office
- Assists in collecting data for the valuation and classification of land, buildings, mobile homes, and other types of real property, takes measurements and/or photos, uses Apex computer software to sketch buildings, makes quality judgements and special condition recommendations.
- Assists in identifying crops for crop report.
- Accurately record all data collected when performing property inspections.
- Interacts with citizens of County, establishes a good working rapport and provides information concerning valuation procedures.
- Participates in informal hearings with taxpayers during the 30-day annual appeal period, explains property valuation and procedures, and reviews individual accounts and makes recommendations for correction or denial.
- Performs all other duties as required by the Chief Appraiser or Assessor
- Ability to work schedule as assigned by supervisor or program
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to communicate (verbally & in writing) in English
- Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the County

The position is required to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience. Occasionally, the position may stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. The employee is required to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and lift up to 25 pounds. The noise level may be very quiet to noisy depending on the situation. This position may be required to drive in a variety of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is subjected to additional stress from the public of a threatening nature while performing the duties of this job.

- Having background knowledge in agriculture is desirable, but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as building permits, legal descriptions, and procedure manuals, and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- An individual must be able to input and retrieve data, build and analyze spread sheets, and learn various appraisal and mapping software.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to speak effectively.
- Must be able to communicate with the Appraiser/Appraisers regarding property characteristics and opinions.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to understand and interpret legal descriptions is desirable.
- High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- One year of experience in related field.
- Valid Driver’s License
