JOB SUMMARY:
Tracks all commercial businesses to determine the value of personal property for taxing purposes.

- Actively searches for new businesses in newspapers, sales tax licenses, chamber of commerce and other resources.
- Establishes accounts and assigns account numbers for all personal property accounts.
- Sends personal property declarations out annually, and updates accounts according to information provided on the declaration.
- Interviews persons familiar with personal property and physically audits 25% of all accounts annually.
- Interacts with business owners, managers and tax agents.
- Considers factors such as depreciation, reproduction costs, value comparison of similar property, and income potential when computing final estimation of property value.
- Prepares all documentation required for annual audit; i.e. Personal Property Audit Plan, listing of accounts audited, non-filers, late filers, listing of new businesses/accounts, attaches late filing fee.
- Performs steps to update all personal property address changes.
- Performs scanning as assigned
- Performs filing, letter writing, and answering general inquiries from the public.
- Answers the phone and assists customers at the counter
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to follow policies and procedures of the County
- Ability to communicate (verbally & in writing) in English
- Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below

The position is required to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience. Occasionally, the position may stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and lift up to 25 pounds. The noise level may be very quiet to noisy depending on the situation. This position may be required to drive in a variety of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation; and vibration.

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of basic office procedures
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Skills:
- Computer skills adequate to perform work tasks
- Learn and operate software specific to Assessor
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Neat penmanship.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple to detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to speak Spanish is a preferred, but not required
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- One-year certificate from college or technical school
- One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver’s License
