Normal Work Hours and Days:  A normal work day consists of 10-12 hours possibly longer depending on workload. Hours and start time will vary depending on workload. Night shift work required as needed.

Summary:
The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects.  The position operates a variety of hand and power tools and clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects
  • Operate light machinery and equipment/hand tools as required in a safe and efficient way.
  • Operate basic hand tools such as saws, shovels, rakes, etc.
  • Operate basic power tools such as plate compactors, cement mixers, etc.
  • Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Provide manual labor assistance on various tasks and assignments
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Dispose of garbage according to set policies and procedures
  • Report any damage immediately to supervisor 
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • A valid driver license
  • 6 months of prior experience as a laborer on remote construction
Preferred:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three or more years’ experience as a laborer on remote construction
  • MSHA certification
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability maintain equipment and follow related procedures
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ability to meet project schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing
