Alaska Channel is a reputable company with a 30-year legacy in the visitor industry. We operate a visitor information TV channel in hotels throughout Southcentral Alaska and are known for high-quality content. In addition to our TV channel, we publish and distribute the 120-page Alaska Activities Guide, the Alaska Activities Map, The Alaska Map, the Alaska.org website, and The Alaska App for iOS and Android.

Role Context:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team. The In-Room Visitor Channel Manager is a key role in ensuring the consistent playback of the visitor channel in hotel guest rooms. This part-time position with flexible hours is based in Anchorage and requires periodic travel days within Southcentral, Alaska. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to troubleshoot and coordinate installation of technical equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the TV programming content changeover of the in-room visitor channel during spring (May) and fall (October), including any mid-season updates as needed. This includes updating lobby iPads and lobby screens.
  • Manage Fairbanks channel with support of Fairbanks-based Alaska Channel employee.
  • Conduct monthly checks at hotels to ensure the proper functioning of the visitor channel, iPads, and lobby screens.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with General Managers and other key hotel staff, promptly responding to their requests and inquiries.
  • Expand lobby screen program to hotels not currently participating, including ordering hardware, tracking shipping, and coordinating installation.
  • Maintain up-to-date guest service agreements.
  • Coordinate channel insertion when new hotels open or when hotels change service providers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues related to the visitor channel.
  • Manage promotional tools such as customized in-room channel lineup cards.
  • Cultivate relationships with hotels that are not currently playing the visitor channel and coordinate installation of Alaska Channel TV.
  • Willingness to travel within Southcentral, Alaska, periodically.

Skills & Expertise

  • Ability to represent Alaska Channel with enthusiasm and enhance meaningful relationships with hotel General Managers, engineers, housekeeping, and other key stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting hardware and willingness to become proficient with the different TV systems and how Alaska Channel TV is integrated.
  • Proven ability to research problems and find solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintain accurate records and documentation in a database.
  • Excellent computer skills: we currently use Microsoft Office, Airtable, Adobe Acrobat, iMazing, and Sublime Text.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, discretion, and decision making with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum five years of experience in operations, hotel management, project management or a similar field.
  • Work requires a valid driver’s license.

Schedule:

  • Flexibility to work an average of 20-50 hours per month, with approximately 3 weeks full-time (40 hours per week) during the last two weeks of April and the first week of May, and approximately 2 weeks full-time (40 hours per week) during the last week of September and the first week of October. These periods coincide with our seasonal program changeovers. Additional full-time weeks may occur if we have one extra update per season (usually around July or January). For the right person, where full-time isn’t an option, we may be able to offer support to keep this position part-time.
