JOB TITLE: General Laborer Trainee (2x)
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Bruce Mundell
STATUS: Seasonal, part-time 37.5 hours/week, appx 15 weeks per year
PURPOSE: The position will involve on-the-job training in all construction types.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the direction of the Construction Manager, learn and assist in all types of construction
2. Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure all machinery and equipment run smoothly.
3. When directed, assist with delivery and handling of materials.
4. Aids in site preparation for projects.
5. Keep the job site area clean, including regular recycling runs.
6. Notify the Construction Manager of any equipment repairs needed or materials needed.
7. Work alongside summer work teams and other volunteers.
8. Maintains a clean, safe, and unobstructed work area by keeping tools and equipment areas organized and tidy for staff and other users.
9. For those applicants 25-70 - You must have a clean driving record: No major moving violations and no more than one at-fault accident in the past three years.
10. Carries out other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Position open to currently enrolled Alaska Chrisitan College Students.
2. Due to Alaska Christian College vehicle insurance, only those applicants at least 25 years old can operate/drive a company vehicle.
3. Prefer having general knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses.
4. Prefer working knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
5. Must have good communication skills, both verbally and written, to communicate with supervisors, peers, vendors, and customers.
6. The ability to maintain composure under difficult circumstances and be adaptable.
7. Must be able to evaluate issues and situations and use logic to determine appropriate solutions.
8. Must be able to work independently and show good judgment.
9. Must be organized and efficient and show good time management skills.
10. Must be reliable with regular, timely attendance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
These duties will be conducted outdoors in varied weather conditions and interior environments. Must be able to move your hands together quickly or hands and limbs and make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
Must be able to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. The job requires performing physical activities using considerable use of arms, legs, and the entire body in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Must be able to lift 60 pounds on an occasional basis. There may be exposed to hazardous materials and limited exposure to pollutants, gases, dust, or odors. There may be some exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. The job may require wearing standard protective safety equipment such as glasses, gloves, and hard hats. Must have adequate sight to meet the responsibilities of the job.
DRESS CODE:
Sturdy, work-appropriate attire is required.
Jeans are acceptable as long as they are clean and well kept. Appropriate footwear is necessary for safety. If any questions arise regarding what is right, speak with the supervisor.
