JOB TITLE: Referral Coordinator
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Performs a wide range of administrative duties to include referral processing, patient registration, verification of insurance eligibility, patient appointment scheduling, program communication to potential candidates, communication with referral sources and other tasks assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Accurately schedule and coordinate patient appointments/diagnostic testing by communicating with the patient, review of last office notes and hospital records.
- Accurately reschedule and/or cancel patient appointments per request.
- Obtain/confirm demographic information with all patients and enter/update as necessary.
- Determines urgency of appointment need based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patients condition and history. Schedules in appropriate timeframe and if necessary, redirects to the emergency room (ER), urgent care center or primary care physician. Confers with physician as needed.
- Request records to be sent from referring provider that pertain to reason for referral. Scheduling will occur when records are received and reviewed. Advised pre-appointment testing may be requested by the Cardiologist.
- Maintains the schedules of assigned physicians by knowledge of provider rotation, preferences and available slots. Ensures adequate use of physicians time by using a priority list (Wait list) to fill cancelled appointment slots.
PAY RANGE: $20-27/hr to start (dependent upon experience)

Education: Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Some college experience with medical terminology, CMA preferred.
Experience: Minimum: Two years experience in a healthcare environment with scheduling experience. Preferred: Three years experience in a healthcare environment working referral management, with Cardiology experience.
