What are the responsibilities and job description for the Desktop Administrator I-IV position at ALASKA HOUSING FINANCE CORPORATION?
The Desktop Administrator I - IV will provide end user support and asset management for workstations, peripherals as well as potentially be responsible for all aspects of deploying and maintaining enterprise desktop environments, depending on level.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Non-exempt, non-supervisory technical position
- This position is the second tier of support for the IT service desk.
- Assists with needs analysis and planning for all end-user hardware and software.
- Performs installations, deployments, repairs and decommissioning of all desktop hardware. This includes working directly with hardware and the supporting vendors to resolve all desktop hardware issues.
- Coordinates and schedules the configuration, installation, deployment and maintenance of all desktop related hardware and software.
- Review, schedule and perform the deployment of all Windows patching.
- Maintains current assets information for supported hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Perform assignments independently at full working level subject to direction of the position’s supervisor.
- Performs other duties as identified.
Knowledge of:
- General Information Technology department operations.
- Customer service techniques and challenges.
- Current computing/network technologies and trends related to hardware and software systems commonly used in an enterprise class computing environment, including server and desktop virtualization, remote computing, application delivery, mobile computing and communications equipment.
Skills and Abilities:
All skills are directly applicable to AHFC’s technical environment which includes:
- Microsoft Active Directory network operating system
- Microsoft Windows server and desktop operating system
- Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
- Microsoft Configuration Manager
- Microsoft Exchange
- Microsoft Office productivity suite
- Switched and routed ethernet network utilizing TCP/IP.
- Supporting and configuring systems in both WAN and LAN network environments.
- Maintaining desktop computing environment of over 400 devices using a combination of asset management, application delivery and imaging systems.
- Planning, configuring, deploying, and maintaining workstation software images in complex computing environments.
- Supporting and deploying networked peripherals such as scanners, printers, copiers, and other ancillary devices.
- Anti-virus, anti-malware and other malicious software identification and removal techniques/tools.
- Technical writing, communication, and documentation.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with AHFC personnel, contractors, customers, consultants, suppliers, and vendors. Interpersonal skills will be utilized daily through interaction with the corporations’ departments and staff.
- Organize and prioritize a constantly changing workload. Must be able to work well under pressure and with direct and indirect supervision and continual interruption. Must be able to function with a high degree of independence within levels of delegated authority.
- Must be able to read and understand written materials, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions, and prepare written materials at a level consistent with the job requirements
- Prioritize tasks and effectively manage time to ensure compliance with numerous deadlines and successfully manage assigned projects.
- Participate with team members in the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced multi-priority support environment.
- Must be able to work as needed. Long hours and/or weekend work may be required as necessary to support department goals and objectives. Must be able to travel as needed, on short notice and/or on a frequent basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for a level I:
High school diploma required.

Desktop Administrator I base pay is a Grade 17 at $62,651.81.
Desktop Administrator II base pay is a Grade 18 at $67,430.28.

Desktop Administrator IV base pay is a Grade 20 at $77,127.94.
All starting base pay is DOE.
