The Alaska Institute for Justice (AIJ) is a nonprofit organization. Since opening our office in 2005, AIJ has been on the frontlines of promoting justice and equality of treatment for immigrants and refugees residing in Alaska. AIJ’s three programs protect, defend, and advance the rights of some of Alaska’s most underserved communities including: 1) Legal Program; 2) Language Interpreter Center; and 3) Research and Policy Institute.
About this Position: This is a full-time position based in Anchorage, Alaska.
This position has several job responsibilities including:
- Review financial documentation, accurately prepare all check requests with back-up documentation and grant coding, deposit forms and travel forms.
- QuickBooks accounts data entry. Record and maintain accurate financial documentation for AIJ’s daily financial transactions.
- Obtain on-line invoices for AIJ’s agency expenses, filing of all financial documentation for audit and grants management.
- Legal program billing and tracking of payments.
- Language Interpreter Center invoice reconciliation and check request review.
- Review and reconcile credit card transactions, calling to correct invoices and getting new billing set up as needed.
- Maintain donor spreadsheet, prepare thank you letters, and enter and reconcile donations received from Stripe on-line payment portal.
- Review agency invoices, payments, and other financial materials and prepare documentation for processing.
- Maintain the account payable files.
Qualifications for Finance Accounting Specialist
- Excellent attention to detail in working with financial accounting activities
- Professionalism and accuracy in work
- Accounting or Bookkeeping office experience
- Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting system required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Able to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
Personal:

- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects independently
- A flexible, can-do attitude
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Education/Experience: College (BA/AA) degree in accounting or business administration/management or equivalent minimum of two years financial accounting or bookkeeping experience. Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting system and Excel required.
