Alaska Marine Lines is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Controller to lead financial reporting, drive business insights, and ensure compliance while supporting our company’s growth and operational success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and may be performed personally or through others. Other duties may be assigned.
- Direct the preparation of financial reports for managerial and financial reporting and provide analysis of financial results in support of the Company’s goals.
- Coordinate recurring managerial reporting and provide ad hoc business analysis support to optimize pricing decisions, control costs, and mitigate risks.
- Develop and implement business intelligence and analytical tools.
- Coordinate preparation of operating plan proposals and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Establish and maintain books and records according to GAAP or IFRS to meet regulatory reporting and compliance.
- Monitor leases, contracts, or agreements to ensure proper accounting treatment and that renewals and changes are reviewed and addressed.
- Maintain adequate internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and to mitigate risk of fraud.
- Understand operating systems, their relationship to the financial systems, and their impact on accounting.
- Collaborate with Parent Company and Lynden Incorporated Financial Services teams to ensure shared services meet AML expectations.
- Coordinate with Lynden Financial Services to provide support for the annual financial statement audit and any other regulatory audits.
- Coordinate with Parent Company on any current or future system implementation requirements, design, and testing.
- Maintain accounting record retention policy and ensure compliance.
- Provide leadership, growth, and direction to direct reports. QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

At least 10 years of increasing responsibility in accounting, and at least 5 or more years of managerial experience.
CPA preferred.
Transportation and / or logistics experience a plus.
Familiar with intercompany processes and accounting concepts.
Experienced in making good business decisions with limited information.
