What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Clerk position at Alaska Native Heritage Center?
JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE:
The Retail Clerk will support the daily operations of Admissions and the Ch’k’iqadi Gallery that includes greeting all visitors, selling admission tickets, sharing a brief overview of the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC), checking out guests at the Gallery register, restocking inventory, engaging shoppers who visit the gallery, and actively explore and learn about Alaska Native art, traditions, and languages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers using Alaska Native languages at Admissions and in Gallery.
- Develop a working knowledge of Alaska Native culture and art.
- Execute Point of Sale data functions at the register using a Square system that includes: using “Favorite Buttons,” entering SKU numbers, processing transactions, and handling and counting cash.
- Execute clerical functions and paperwork in Admissions and Gallery, including Tour Vouchers, daily sales reports and balancing of the cash register daily.
- Assist in handling inventory deliveries by counting inventory and organizing necessary storage.
- Maintain, manage, and organize merchandise on the shelves and racks in the Gallery.
- Assist the Gallery Manager in ensuring the smooth running of the store.
- Ensure excellent retail experiences to customers.
- Maintain the store by cleaning, arranging, and restocking the shelves.
- Package inventory for shipping as needed.
- Reports to the Manager or Floor Lead when difficulties arise.
- Ability to draft Gallery Social Media Posts.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Able to perform basic math, writing and reading tasks without supervision.
- Considerable ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Able to comfortably stand for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to engage in Alaska Native language learning and art projects.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stock product as necessary, make sure all displays are kept stocked, neat and clean within the guidelines set by the Gallery.
- Keep sales floor clean which includes sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and trash removal to ensure a presentable and safe work area.
- Give accurate helpful information to ANHC visitors.
- Ability to delegate daily tasks and duties for incoming interns and apprentices assigned to work with Admissions and the Gallery.
- Assist with public communications for the Gallery, i.e., taking photos and gathering data for social media posts.
- Other tasks and duties based on the needs of the business.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing duties of this job you will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Job will generally be performed in a retail environment indoors.
- Able to occasionally work in Alaska weather extremes.
