Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium has a hiring preference for qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.

Summary:

Under close supervision or general direction depending on the job title, applies technical skills to competently provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services.

Responsibilities:

Trains in and performs a full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services.

Trains in and performs patient specimen testing.

Ensures sample suitability.

Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.

Trains and performs in accepting and processing samples for on-site testing or forwards to contracted reference laboratories.

Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results.

Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.

Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments.

Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.

Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory.

Answers questions from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques.

Participates in continuing education programs.

Monitors, maintains, orders and stocks laboratory supplies.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Medical Laboratory Scientist I, II, and Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist

In addition to above, assesses competencies of MLTs and MLSs and provides specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology and infectious disease safety.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Medical Laboratory Scientist I, II, Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist

A Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field. Progressively responsible work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist

Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

OR Two (2) continuous years of clinical laboratory experience at ANMC, a letter of intent from Director of Laboratory Operations AND completion, with a passing grade, of the MLS III Merit Program within approved fiscal year.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

Medical Laboratory Scientist II & Medical Laboratory Scientist III / Medical Technologist

Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Merit Program Requirements:

Instrument Key Operator/School for Analyzer, Quality Assurance Project/Process Improvement, Validation/Correlation study for new test, updated test, or new analyzer; Write SOP, Complete Quality Systems Course with Director of Laboratory Operations, Quality Manual SOP Quiz-created by and Assistant Director of Laboratory Operations; In-Service for Laboratory staff (expectation of >12CEUs completed prior), Minimum of 3 special projects or assignments as directed/approved by supervisor. Proficiency is measured by Panel Discussion with Management-discussion to involve summary of merit projects, experience, and any topic deemed appropriate by the Laboratory Medical Director or/and Director of Laboratory Operations.
