Summary:

Under general supervision, provides Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations for diagnosis and treatment of patients in ANMC clinics.

Responsibilities:

All:

- Schedules patients for MRI examinations and performs MRI studies.

- Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities. –

- Receives and screens patients, explains method of examination, and prepares patient for imaging.

- Adheres to all MRI safety standards.

- Performs and completes routine examinations.

- Monitors and implements technological improvements in MRI scanning.

- Confers with radiologists to establish protocols for nonstandard examinations.

- Maintains records of patients imaged, type of examinations performed and protocols used.

- Monitors examinations by checking computations, performances and results of the selected parameters to obtain effective diagnostic computer generated data and images.

- Ensures imaging equipment is operated within the manufacturer’s guidelines.

- Records image data on appropriate archiving database.

- Assists with quality control and improvement.

- Assists with routine radiographic examinations as required.

- Monitors stock of imaging supplies and ensures reorder.

- Daily/Shift inventory of supplies restocked and shortages communicated.

- Equipment shutdown, warm-up, and calibration.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

MRI TECHNOLOGIST II:

- Acts as a mentor for MRI Technologist I’s.

- Cross trains Technologists and students.

- With help researches and clears MRI safe devices.

- Takes on additional tasks as assigned by Lead Technologist and/or CT MRI Technologist Supervisor.

MRI TECHNOLOGIST III:

- Acts as a mentor for MRI Technologist I’s and II’s. Cross trains technologists and students.

- Masters all skill areas and takes challenging cases.

- Assists in improvements and processes in the department.

- Able to proficiently build protocols.

- Researches and clears MRI safe devices independently and without assistance.

- Takes on leader role in absence of lead technologist.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

All:

- Knowledge of diagnostic technologist principals, practices and concepts.

- Knowledge of anatomy of three-dimensional relationships.

- Knowledge of diagnostic protocols, techniques, and requirements.

- Knowledge of reference standards and regulatory requirements for MRI safety.

- Knowledge of emergency procedures, sterile practices, infection control, basic life support, and other applicable practices.

- Knowledge of Electronic Health Record System.

- Knowledge of patient safety in zones 3 and 4.

- Skill in operating MRI technology and resolving problems with imaging equipment.

- Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks and demands.

- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with patients and other employees.

- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

All:

- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.

- Completion of an accredited diagnostic imaging program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologist Technologists (ARRT). Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

MRI TECHNOLOGIST I:

- Non-supervisory: Six (6) months of professional MRI operation experience.

MRI TECHNOLOGIST II:

- Non-supervisory: Two (2) years of professional MRI operation experience.

MRI TECHNOLOGIST III

- Non-supervisory: Five (5) years of professional MRI operation experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

All:

- Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

- Must possess and maintain a certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

MRI TECHNOLOGIST I:

- Must be registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Registry eligible and pass the MRI within six (6) months of start of position.

MRI TECHNOLOGIST II, III:

- Must be registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
