Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Travel Management Supervisor , provides customer service to patients, visitors and public through transportation services to and from appointed locations.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the operation of shuttle buses and/or vans ranging in passenger capacity on various road and climatic conditions a major portion of the year, and for knowing and obeying all local and State traffic laws and employer work rules. Shuttle driver duties include the safe operation of passenger shuttles and/or van and providing door-to-door assistance for our customers.

Performs preliminary vehicle inspections before, during, and at the conclusion of work shift to assure that all lighting systems are operational, tires are properly inflated, and that engine gauges are within normal limits. Immediately reports irregularities and damage to supervisor or shop personnel and maintains accurate vehicle operations logs.

Responsible for maintaining route schedule, stopping at all designated pick-up points, providing passenger information, assisting passengers in boarding and disembarking as needed; accountable for fare collection, timely reporting of incidents/accidents, and completion of documentation required by procedures and/or supervisory instructions.

Provides customer services to patients, visitors, and public. Greets customers, families and visitors in a professional manner and determines needs. Functions as first point-of-contact for directing customers to medical and health related services. Answers questions about hospital organization, providers and locations; serves as a resource person and provides accurate information and directions for hospital, clinics, programs and services.

Demonstrates supportive attitude toward customers, families, visitors and/or staff. Communicates effectively and tactfully with customers, families and visitors recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition. Provide excellent customer service.

Operates the wheelchair lift for purpose of transporting passengers in wheelchairs and to be able to properly fasten the wheelchair safely and securely.

Demonstrate professional driving skills at all times.

Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objective, quality assessment and improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Maintains equipment handheld radio and cell phone for shuttle tracking purposes.

Performs routine services such as fueling, maintaining fluid levels (oil, radiator, transmission, etc.), checking tire pressures and other similar tasks. Cleans the inside and outside of the vehicles including windows, seats, dash, panels and floor. Ensuring this is done before closing up the shuttle for the night.

Provides suggestions to management to improve overall quality and day-to-day operations.

Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be potential threat or danger to a passenger.

Reports any accidents, violations of policy, safety hazards or unusual occurrences to supervisor and/or lead immediately.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Level II Driver

In addition to the above functions will be responsible for the following:

Maintains the shuttle supply inventory.

Assist with training on new drivers. This will include the care and use of equipment and processes.

Work with Lead Shuttle Driver on schedules and coverage plans; this could include assigning routes to specific drivers.

Assist lead driver in the periodic inspections of the shuttles to ensure that drivers are following guidelines for cleanliness and maintenance.

Level III (Lead) Driver

In addition to the above functions, you will also be responsible for the following:

Assist the Travel Management leadership with interviewing, hiring and training of the Shuttle Team. Provide direction, and guidance to assigned staff, including developing goals and priorities and training plans. Counsels, trains, and coaches subordinate staff.

Performs group huddles with team members to communicate any changes and/or updates.

May assist in the planning of new routes for the ANMC Patient Shuttle program.

Coordinates planning and scheduling of the maintenance of the shuttles and may be the point of contact for accidents and/or breakdowns after-hours.

Performs periodic inspections on shuttles to ensure they are in working order and each driver is completing cleanliness guidelines.

Skill in managing multiple priorities and maintaining a schedule.

Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A high school diploma or GED equivalent.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Level I - Non-supervisory - Two (2) years professional driving experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Level II - Non-supervisory – Four (4) years professional driving experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Level III - Non-supervisory – Six (6) years professional driving experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

Level I

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License.

Within 90 days of the hire date, must possess all of the following:

Defensive Driving and Safety Certification identified by ANTHC

Passenger Assistance Safety and Securement Certification

L evel II & III

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and Class C CDL Passenger Endorsement prior to employment. Within 90 days of the hire date, must possess all of the following:

Defensive Driving and Safety Certification identified by ANTHC

Passenger Assistance Safety and Securement Certification
