Summary:
Under general supervision, the Credits Analyst is responsible for the timely research and resolution of all outstanding credit balances, processing of refunds to efficiently resolve patients’ and insurance companies’ credits and refund requests, and for reviewing and resolving complex credits.

Responsibilities:
All
Reviews and resolves accounts in credit balance status.
Follows up on open credit balances accurately and promptly. Manages work queues related to overpayments and credit balances.
Identifies trends, communicates findings and escalates as appropriate.
Evaluates the expected reimbursement per the existing contracts and follows appropriate guidelines to report and escalate discrepancies.
Establishes a system to ensure refund requests from insurance companies are processed within 30 days of receipt.
Accesses payor system resources to research and correct claims and initiate a recoupment when necessary.
Provides support to ANTHC division and departments on specific projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Credits Analyst II
Provides training, guidance and support to Credits Analyst I.
Reviews and resolves more complex credits.

Senior Credits Analyst
Performs duties of the Credits Analyst I and II.
Develops and tests new workflows and assists in implementation of new office processes and procedure.
Reviews and resolves accounts in credit balance status created in routine posting events as well as errors created by charges, coding and billing mistakes.
Conducts root cause analysis of issues affecting overpayments and assists in tracking, trending and reporting.
Assist in developing audit review methods in order to find new overpayment recovery opportunities.
Trains and mentors staff. Assists in monitoring of staff in training and beyond.
Takes lead on special projects as assigned to ensure timely completion.
Assists in distributing workload among coworkers; provides assistance to coworkers; monitors and reviews coworkers’ progress.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance billing and reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of claims review, analysis and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of commercial and government insurance reimbursement programs.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of applications.
  • Skill in tracking and accomplishing multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Skill in tracking and accomplishing cooperative working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
All
A high school diploma or GED equivalent.


Credits Analyst II/Senior Credits Analyst

  • An Associate’s Degree in Business, Finance or related discipline. Progressively responsible professional work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Credits Analyst I
Non-supervisory – Three (3) years of work experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Credits Analyst II
Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of department experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Senior Credits Analyst
Non-supervisory – Seven (7) years of department experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.
May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.
According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional specific technical certifications.
