Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium has a hiring preference for qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.

Summary:

Under general supervision, performs electro-cardiovascular (EKG) examinations.

Responsibilities:

Performs diagnostic EKG examinations according to Department procedures. Applies electrode probes to chest to obtain electrical pattern tracings from heart. Records electrical patterns and identifies any anomalies indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant condition.

Tunes and adjusts equipment to achieve optimum results. Performs cardiovascular evaluations, including exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders, and ambulatory blood pressure monitor.

Adjusts equipment and calms patient to eliminate test artifacts. Monitors the patient for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes. Recognizes abnormal rhythms and immediately notifies physician.

Evaluates test results for clarity and accuracy. Informs physicians of preliminary findings as requested, and according to Department procedures. Distributes completed test results to physicians and service providers. Maintains patient charts, and updates file systems for tests performed.

Cleans and sterilizes equipment and work space. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and readjusts equipment or refers for repair. Trains and cross-trains other clinical staff as required. Instructs patients in pretest preparation, answers questions and explains procedures within scope of practice.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

· Knowledge of diagnostic EKG equipment.

· Knowledge of EKG examination protocols and patient preparation for evaluation.

· Skill in basic cardiac rhythm analysis.

· Skill in monitoring patient responses.

· Skill in performing EKG testing procedures.

· Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

An Associate’s Degree in Electrocardiography or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory - None.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

· Current Basic Life Support card required.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

· Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)

· Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Depending on t he needs of the organization , some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
