Summary: Under direct supervision of the OR Nurse Manager the EVS Technician is responsible for providing a safe care environment for patients and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within a specialty area (e.g., surgical services/peri-operative suite, cath lab, endoscopy, etc.) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Tech will have contact with patients and visitors. Contact may include physical, psychological, educational, and safety related, and should be appropriate to the specific demographics of patients served in assigned specialty service areas. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The EVS Tech, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and patient experience .

R esponsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment. Areas include, but are not limited to, surgical services, labor delivery, endoscopy, cath lab.

P erforms duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.

A dheres to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards and promote a culture of safety.

A ccountable for maintaining all appropriate logs and check lists/sheets as accurate and current.

R esponsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations.

D emonstrate a working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfecting requirements specific to highly sensitive environments.

D emonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidence based recommendations in accordance with the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professional in Infection Control (APIC) and Association for peri-Operative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.

A ctively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.

M aintains supplies and equipment by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion.

R emoves waste and transport to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste streams (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous).

F ollows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

A ssist in training and onboarding new EVS hires.

P erforms other duties as assigned.

M INIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

H igh school diploma or GED.

M INIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

E VS I - Non-supervisory - One (1) year in a healthcare environmental service and/or comparable experience.

E VS II - Non-supervisory - Three (3) years in healthcare environmental services and/or comparable experience.

M INIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

E VS I - No Requirement

E VS II - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) within 6 in start of position.
