Summary:
Under limited supervision, manages the admitting department of the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC).
Responsibilities:
Manages the Admitting Department, working in close coordination with the Admitting Supervisor. Manages and schedules assigned staff for 24/7 coverage. Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to assigned staff. Interviews and hires new employees. Develops goals and priorities in conjunction with employees, and assigns tasks and projects. Develops staff skills and training plans. Counsels, trains, and coaches subordinate staff. Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations. Provides leadership, direction and guidance in all aspects of the Admission, Discharge and Transfer process according to hospital policy.
Manages the day-to-day operations for the admitting department including bed assignments and completion of preliminary paperwork. Implements admissions policies and practices and coordinates with medical, nursing, and patient accounting staff to ensure appropriate patient placement. Ensures that all insurance benefits coverage meets standards of admission as dictated by hospital policy. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to a head of the department.
Develops, implements and monitors quality improvement and assurance programs. Audits daily admitting registration for accuracy. Reviews and reconciles patient census reports; corrects and adjusts computer billing systems and daily census. Compiles and analyzes data. Prepares and processes special and recurring reports and administrative records. Represents admitting department in divisional and organization-wide planning committees and initiatives. Develops, manages and monitors project budgets and contracts. Completes internal and external written and oral reports professionally and in a timely manner. Coordinates with ANTHC finance department to insure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Non-supervisory - Five (5) years of healthcare experience involving registration and scheduling. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Supervisory - Two (2) years involving employee supervision.
