Summary:
The Sleep Technologist Level II works under medical supervision of the Department Medical Director to perform and evaluate polysomnogram tests and other sleep disorders related testing. Functions independently, safely operates sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology and provides continuing education to patients for sleep related issues.
Responsibilities:
Performs sleep studies including Polysomnography, MSLT, MWT, PAP NAPS, In Home Sleep Testing in accordance with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines. Complete s monthly scoring competency and be able to score/stage sleep records to the level needed to maintain accreditation.
May assist physicians during clinic hours, provide patients and staff with education related to testing procedures and will assist with quality programs. Understand s the indicators/contradictions for positive airway pressure and how to administer oxygen. Provide s patients with an appropriate mask fitting and education related to durable medical equipment
Interact s with patients,physicians and other medical staff in accordance with hospital policy and best practice standards
Obtain s /Maintain s credentials related to the essential functions of the department and will complete required continuing education.
Recognize s sleep/wake complaints, interview patients to assess pertinent health/sleep history, communicate s with physicians or team leader to clarify orders, setup s and calibrate s equipment, appl ies electrodes, monitor s EKG, EMG, EOG, EEG throughout a sleep study as well as be able to note/correlate clinical events in order to the ensure the safety and welfare of patients.
Be proficient in sleep software and appropriately document s in the hospital electronic medical record.
Attend s staff meetings and complete s hospital specific and required continuing education. Must complete one AASM approved Continuing Education Credit per month.
Performs other duties as assigned, work s different shifts, cover s PTO, sick calls and aid s with other coverage needs.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
· Knowledge of Cadwell Sleep software, G3 HSAT software, and Cerner EHR.
· Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and politics.
· Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues
· Skill in critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Skill in analyzing complex situation and apply policy.
· Skill in performing routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
· Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology.
OR
· Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory - Two (2) years sleep medicine experience.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
· Have/maintain one of the following: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS).
· Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Clinical Sleep Health (CCSH) credential preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to work a 12-hour third shift if necessary.
