What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Support Technician I position at Alaska SeaLife Center?
Summary:
This position provides network, software, and end-user computer support at the Alaska SeaLife Center.
Education/Training Requirements:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED, or formal computer technical training with industry certifications. A minimum of one year's experience is required in PC hardware and software troubleshooting and repair, including providing technical support for network users and delivering hardware and software support across LAN/WAN environments. The specific skills and abilities of each employee in this position and the department's needs will dictate which of the primary responsibilities are performed by each employee.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Configures and troubleshoots desktop and laptop computers, IP camera systems, internal phone systems, and smartphones.
2. Supports PC software (such as MS Office) and general desktop/laptop operation.
3. Provides support for network systems (such as MS Networking, Windows Server TCP/IP, DHCP, and cloud-based services such as Google Workspace) and network reconfigurations.
4. Assists the HR department with network user profiles and security maintenance – adding and deleting users from the network, phone, and email systems.
5. Maintains software and hardware inventory library, including licensing issues.
6. Monitors and updates for virus protection.
7. Monitors network systems: backup, email, disk space, and network performance.
8. Develop and provide training to staff.
9. Works with consulting firms and contractors to identify and resolve issues.
10. Provides on-site, remote monitoring and management, and telephone support for end-user issues such as email and network access, including after-hours response as required in emergency situations.
11. Supports and troubleshoots network and standalone printers.
12. Supports and troubleshoots VPN and Webmail.
13. Has experience or training in wireless router and access point maintenance and configuration.
14. Provides support, maintenance, and configuration for the internal telephone system.
15. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, goodwill, cooperation, and high service standards.
16. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center values, policies, procedures, and programs.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
Extensive working knowledge of desktop/laptop PC installation, configuration, and problem resolution; proficiency in the configuration of desktop, laptop, and tablets: Current Windows OS, MS Networking; MS Office; NIC, modem, virus protection, network administration, virtual server, TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as part of a team, work with outside networking contractors and consultants and manage time under pressure. Ability to speak and write effectively, meet new people, and interact with diverse interests.
