Job Summary

The Senior Painter is responsible for the interior and exterior painting throughout Anchorage School District facilities. The location of the work station is subject to contract language concerning shift location / bids. Maintenance employees work a 4 / 10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements

The following are required :

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of experience within the past five years as a painter, including tape floating and preparation work.
  • Must possess an Alaska hazardous paint certificate.

The following are preferred :

  • Minimum of four years of experience within the past six years as a journeyman painter. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.
  • Essential Job Functions

  • Interprets and works from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures.
  • Mixes, blends, and matches colors in a production-oriented painting unit.
  • Makes use of current methods and procedures, materials, tools, trim-out and cut-in methods, and alters and repairs buildings, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Performs finish work including taping, texturing, and applying lacquer products.
  • Estimates materials and labor requirements.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures for the painting craft trade including, but not limited to, the use and maintenance of power and hand tools, including airless sprayers.
  • Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
  • Writes reports as required.
  • Proficiently uses appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Works cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Physical / Mental Demands

    The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his / her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

    Work Environment

    Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

    While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
