What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microbiology Analyst position at Alaska Water Laboratories?
Microbiology Analyst:
· Responsible for performing sample analysis and generating analytical data according to ADEC approved EPA and Standard Methods.
· Performs a variety of analytical tests and is knowledgeable with benchtop techniques of examination.
· Performs and is knowledgeable about microbiology specific plating techniques and aseptic techniques.
· Microbiology Analysts are responsible for the performance of test procedures and the proper operation of analytical test equipment.
· Microbiology Analysts are responsible for laboratory maintenance and preparing solutions while complying with all Laboratory Policies and Procedures, SOPs, and Methodology.
· Operating analytical equipment in accordance with authorized policies, procedures, and governing regulations, and making appropriate recommendations for correction and improvement as necessary. This includes calibration, quality control and assurance program requirements, and proper batching and validation of results.
· Preparation of standard solutions, quality control standards, client samples, and other method requirements.
· Compliance with good laboratory practices at all times.
· Validation of other analyst methods and batches.
· Accurately records all required sample, QC, and environmental parameters during analysis. Narration of quality control in case narrative.
· Maintenance of laboratory equipment and glassware per SOP requirements, laboratory dishes, and all laboratory bench workspaces.
· Assistance with sample receiving, completing chain of custody requirements at sample receipt, and compliance with all ADEC required parameters at sample receipt.
· Receipt and tracking of laboratory supplies. Submission of laboratory purchase orders for any required supplies to laboratory management.
· Compliance with all safety requirements outlined in the LCM, Laboratory QAM, SOP, and Safety protocols.
· Completion of annual SOP reviews and training documents. Annually recertification through CDCs for all analytical methodologies.
· Required Education: BS Degree – Biology or other related Natural Science
· On the job training provided to learn approved methodology for sample analysis. Confirmation of analyst technique confirmed with IDC samples prior to approval of client sample handling.

Pay: $20.00 - $20.50 per hour
