What are the responsibilities and job description for the INDIGENT DRUG FACILITATOR position at Albany Area Primary Health Care?
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Practice Administrator/Operations Manger and/or Laboratory Director, performs clerical, data entry, inventory management, ordering, pre-call and re-call to assist providers with indigent patient pharmaceutical needs through the various indigent drug programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assimilates patient data using the indigent drug program software program.
Maintains drug formulary for indigent drug program with the assistance from the Pharmacy, Therapeutic, and Diagnostic Committee.
Secure enrollment forms and assists patients with enrollment applications for indigent drug programs.
Understand and implement all protocol to ensure compliance with the HIPAA regulations ensuring patient privacy.
Assist patients and provider to obtain appropriate signatures for the enrollment process and secures authorizations from patients to participate in appropriate indigent drug programs.
Maintain current applications from the patient for all participating drug companies.
Verifies income for indigent drug program, as well as AAPHC sliding fee scale applications.
Pre-calls patients for refills in a timely manner to assist facility operations.
Re-calls patients as appropriate for continuation of indigent drug program.
Pulls files and maintains medical records as it relates to indigent drug program with appropriate documentation.
Schedule appointments and assists with the appointments process, as well as no-shows for the indigent dug program.
Educate patients on the importance of timely reorder and providing necessary information to comply with drug company policies.
Maintains inventory of drugs on order, received, and dispensed for the indigent drug program.
Orders medication in a timely manner and maintains an ordering log for the indigent drug program.
Updates and documents price comparisons on all on all medications on the indigent drug program formulary.
Generate monthly reports as directed pertaining to the indigent drug program.
Ensures patients receive prescription information handouts with each prescription.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of medical office procedures. Understanding of how to read a medical record. Ability to operate a computer and photocopy machine. Skill in answering the phone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to work under pressure and still maintain accuracy. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, employees, and the public. Knowledge of computer skills in relationship to the indigent drug program software program. Knowledge of pharmaceutical company programs and their ordering requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. Post-secondary education preferred.
Computer literacy in Microsoft applications.
Valid driver’s license. Reliable transportation.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work may require sitting for long periods of time: also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on a computer screen for long periods and to work in an environment which can be stressful.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
Contact involves dealing with sick people. Occasional evening or weekend work.
