OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY
Assist the optometrist by conducting and recording pretest data. Responsible for the daily maintenance of the exam/pretest rooms and maintaining supplies.
JOB CLASSIFICATION: 112
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
o Work directly with patients and take initiative to explain exam and test process.
o Conduct pretest needed prior to Optometrist seeing the patient
o Perform measurements with accuracy and attention to detail.
o Effectively communicate fitting and dispensing process for patient comprehension.
o Sets up exam rooms according to Optometrist preference
o Keep rooms stocked and well organized
o Assist with scheduling for vision clinic
o Ensures work areas are properly stocked and adequate supplies are maintained
o Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED certification required
Previous ophthalmic certification preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
Strong organizational skills
MS Office experience preferred
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.
